A CLGS Queering the 2024 Vote* Workshop Series

Sitting in Stillness and Prayer is an online retreat space intended to provide an opportunity for meditation, reflection, and shared presence as we approach Election Day 2024.

Drawing from both Buddhist and Christians spiritual traditions, this retreat space is comprised of four sections:

  • Dealing with Anxiety and Embracing Hope: Reflections from Hebrew and Christian Scripture
  • Dealing with Anxiety and Embracing Hope: Reflections from Buddhism
  • Lectio Divina: a Christian meditation practice
  • Buddhist sitting practice

OUR PRESENTERS

 

Grace Gilliam [she|her] has been on staff of Pacific School of Religion (PSR) for over 12 years. A PSR alum (MTS 2010), she is currently a DMin student at the seminary.  Grace practices socially engaged Buddhism with East Bay Meditation Center in Oakland, California, and took Bodhisattva vows in 2017.  She considers PSR her second spiritual home.

Bernie Schlager [he|they] serves as Executive Director of CLGS and is Associate Professor of Historical and Cultural Studies at Pacific School of Religion. He is co-author of Ministry Among God’s Queer Folk: LGBTQ Pastoral Care [Cascade Press, 2019] and editor of Mapping New Terrain in Queer Religious Scholarship: Essays in Honor of John Eastburn Boswell (forthcoming Routledge Press 2025].
