Workshop #2: Lenten Preaching | A CLGS & MCC Queering the Word Workshop with Rev. Dr. Tijuana Gray and Rev. Jakob Hero-Shaw
Recorded on Wednesday, 28 January 2026
Lent is perhaps the queerest season of the liturgical year. The richness and complications of this liturgical season make it a fertile ground for exploring queer exegetical opportunities and community discussion. A queering of Lent can offer us many new ways to explore our faith in church communities.
In this CLGS Queering the Word preaching workshop, we considered the lectionary texts for Year A – from Ash Wednesday through Easter Sunday, and we offered supplemental materials that highlight queer icons and heroes who can enrich our Lenten journey and the hope of resurrection.

Workshop #3: Baptisms, Weddings, and Funerals | A CLGS & MCC Queering the Word Workshop with Revs. Lauren Bennett and Jakob Hero-Shaw
Recorded on Wednesday, 11 March 2026
Baptisms, Weddings, and Funerals are deeply sacred life events (for individuals, families, and faith communities), and these celebrations of initiation, commitment, and commemoration call for thoughtful and creative preaching.
In this CLGS Queering the Word preaching workshop, we explored how scripture can inform and enrich our approach to these milestone events. Focusing on the Gospels and other sacred texts, we (re)examined themes of love, community, and commitment through a queer lens, fostering deeper connections with LGBTQ+ people and our identities and experiences.

Workshop #4: LGBTQ+ Holydays/Holidays | A CLGS & MCC Queering the Word Workshop with Rev. Lauren Bennett, Rev. Dr. Tijuana Gray, and Rev. Jakob Hero-Shaw
Recorded on Wednesday, 20 May 2026
Given the many times throughout the year that we mark commemorations and celebrations important to our LGBTQ+ communities, let us embrace these opportunities to preach with queer wisdom and insight.
In this workshop, we delved into aspects of the richness of LGBTQ+ history, culture, and spirituality to discover themes and narratives that can enrich our understanding of Queer Holydays/Holidays. We also explored how we might honor and amplify the voices and stories of LGBTQ+ individuals, honoring our unique journeys and contributions to our faith communities and to the larger world.
