In this interactive workshop members of the Trans Seminarian Leadership Cohort, a group of trans and nonbinary seminary students, explore religious leadership in our current social and political climate. Presenters also invited attendees to explore their own beliefs to help “queer” the concept of theological education and religious communities and to co-create sacred space with the presenters, as we discussed reclaiming belonging, healing, and wholeness in our traditions as transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people of faith.
Topics explored also included a review examine how participants’ own communities, religious leadership, and lives have been impacted by systemic racism and transphobia and a sharing of our own spiritual journeys and processes of discernment as queer people of faith.
Participants also discussed tools to further articulate their calling toward social justice within and beyond spiritual vocations. Finally, we considered new ideas and concrete actions for best-supporting transgender and nonbinary people in their faith communities!
