The political landscape of the past year produced more anti-trans rhetoric and legislation than ever before. In the face of this anti-trans onslaught, faith leaders are called to organize, provide support, and speak truth to volatile power. Many trans and nonbinary religious leaders find ourselves in leadership roles providing spiritual care to primarily cisgender congregations and communities.
In this CLGS Transgender Roundtable Workshop, we will explore methods of connection, affirmation, and empowerment for trans, nonbinary, and otherwise gender-creative people in religious leadership. We will also give specific attention to the needs of trans leaders who are serving in non-trans spaces, including strategizing together about caring for others and others while our own lives, legal identities, and bodily autonomy are under attack.
This workshop is intended for religious leaders who identify as trans, nonbinary, or genderqueer; allies are welcome to attend, although priority will be given to trans voices.
