6:30pm: Book Discussion
CLGS is pleased to host a discussion with editors and authors of the new book, Struggling in Good Faith: LGBTQI Inclusion from 13 American Religious Perspectives as the first program of the Nehirim Jewish Roundtable. Authors – Rabbi D’vorah Rose, BCC, Rabbi Mychal Copeland, MTS, and Rabbi Jane Litman will share their insights on the intersection between religion and LGBTQI issues gleaned from their recent book and their particular perspectives as Jewish faith leaders.
We will start off the evening with an opening reception celebrating the launch of CLGS’ new Jewish Roundtable program.
We are at a critical turning point in American religious and political life over LGBTQI integration. How each spiritual community approaches the question will profoundly impact the American political and social climate of the future. Which religious communities are making strides toward LGBTQI inclusion? Which are at the point of internal division over this contentious issue? Where is there flexibility and where are doors slammed shut? Within Judaism, how are some deeply engaged in a struggle with LGBTQI integration while others are at the forefront of national progress for LGBTQI equality? After the breakthrough Supreme Court decision last summer for marriage equality, we have witnessed both political and religious backlash that could undermine hard-won victories for LGBTQI people. Authors Rabbis D’vorah Rose, BCC and Mychal Copeland, MTS, will share their insights on the intersection between religion and LGBTQI issues gleaned from their recent book, Struggling in Good Faith: LGBTQI Inclusion from 13 American Religious Perspectives [Skylight Paths, 2015].
