This CLGS Lavender Lunch workshop delves into Dr. Hess’ qualitative research that explores the experiences of Queer current and former students navigating fundamentalist Christian educational institutions.

Dr. Hess’ analysis focuses, in particular, on the varying degrees of hidden and overt allyship and hostility that Queer people in fundamentalist Christian higher educational institutions experience with regard to peers, teachers, administrators, and clergy, thus revealing both barriers and breakthroughs to acceptance.

Through poignant narratives, we will have the opportunity to hear stories of hope, humor, resilience, and profound challenge.

In addition, this CLGS Lavender Lunch workshop will emphasize the transformative impact of intentionally-supportive people – and will offer practical insights for those navigating politics, faith, and identity in the fundamentalist church.
