In this workshop, we will explore ways to honor Trans Day of Remembrance in congregations and community organizations. The workshop leaders will share ideas from a variety of faith-based and secular settings, participants are encouraged to bring questions and ideas from your own faith and community contexts.
Workshop Leaders
Angel Collie (he/him) serves as the Associate Director of the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity at Duke University, he is a faculty member of the Trans Seminarian Leadership Cohort. Before his current role, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received his BA in Religious Studies with minors in both Women’s Studies and Sexuality Studies and Yale Divinity School, where he graduated with a Master of Divinity. Angel is in the Doctor of Ministry program at Duke Divinity School where he is focusing on providing pastoral care within queer and trans communities.
Ezra Fairley-Collins (he/him) is the Coordinator of Individual Membership at United Religions Initiative, a global interfaith peace building movement, he is a faculty member of the Trans Seminarian Leadership Cohort. He is a 2020 graduate of Wake Forest University School of Divinity. Ezra is an active participant in his denomination, the Alliance of Baptists. He is a board member for Faithful America, a progressive Christian nonprofit actively campaigning for social justice around the US. Ezra also currently serves as the chair of the Faith Forum event for the PFLAG Charlotte chapter. He is passionate about all things digital media, sports, and TV dramas. Ezra lives in Charlotte, NC with his spouse and daughter.
Rev. Jakob Hero-Shaw (he/him) is the coordinator of the Transgender Roundtable at the Center for LGBTQ and Gender Studies (CLGS) and a faculty member of the Trans Seminarian Leadership Cohort. He is the Senior Pastor of the Metropolitan Community Church of Tampa. Jakob received his Master of Divinity degree and Certificate in Sexuality and Religion from the Pacific School of Religion and his Master of Arts in Ethics and Social Theory from the Graduate Theological Union. Jakob’s greatest joy is raising two amazing kids, Mima and Ruben, with his husband, Allan.
