Our friends from the Disciples Seminary Foundation are conducting a training on November 4th and we are happy to support them.

Building an Inclusive Church Toolkit Training

The Building an Inclusive Church Toolkit contains 20 years of experience and insight into how to build LGBT welcome and inclusion in congregations. The Toolkit has been developed by the Institute for Welcoming Resources, a collection of leaders from several denominational LGBT welcoming programs such as the Disciples GLAD Alliance.

Presented in the Toolkit are the tools and the process recommended to develop a unique, grace filled welcoming process that builds community in a congregation leading to a decision to join a denominational welcoming program such as the Disciples Open & Affirming Ministry Program.

At this workshop, Rev. Mark Johnston, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Open & Affirming Ministry Program of the GLAD Alliance, will give a hands on and in-depth training into the tools and process recommended in the Toolkit. While focused on LGBT issues, the Toolkit is based on skills and process used in community organizing and development. These skills can also be adapted to guide a congregation through many tough conversations.

This workshop will be held from 8:45 am to 4 pm in the Badé Museum at the Pacific School of Religion, on Friday, November 4th.
