Happy National Coming Out Day !

33 years ago, the first National Coming Out Day (NCOD) was celebrated as a way to emphasize the importance of living as an “out” lesbian or gay person.  Today, NCOD is an international observance that has expanded to celebrate the many ways in which people choose to live publicly as LGBTQ+ people in a world that still makes it difficult – and in some places even illegal – to live openly as a queer person.

Coming out remains a political act.

Founded 21 years ago, CLGS has marked NCOD every year and this year is no different.  Rather than a “live” celebration on our campus at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, we invite our community of  supporters and followers to mark this important day by taking part in some (or all!) of the many online events that we have planned for this month of October: from our Lavender Lunches and Jewish Queeries Series events to our Queer and Latinx Faith Conversations and other opportunities to explore the intersections of LGBTQ+ identities and religion and spirituality.  As always, check out the list of Upcoming Events at our website and the CLGS Facebook page for the latest information on our programs!

We extend a special invitation for you to join us on Wednesday, 16 October 2020 (ONLINE at 6:30pm Pacific Time) to hear Rev. Dr. Megan Rohrer offer our 12th Annual CLGS Georgia Harkness Lecture: “Trans Theology Without Apology: Using Art and Historical Exegesis to Celebrate Trans Figuration and the Trans Aesthetic in the Bible.”

And, of course, we invite you to celebrate and honor the many LGBTQ+ people who have gone before, those who helped to build a social and political movement that calls for a more just world for everyone.
